Tips & Tricks

How important is a good engagement ring

An engagement ring is something quite special. Although it’s not the band you’ll be adorned with on your actual wedding day, it’s the once-in-a-lifetime precursor, which is very important in terms of symbolism. It’s the engagement ring that people show off when delivering news to family or friends, so it makes sense that it be symbolic of your feelings. When you finally make the decision to go and pick out an engagement ring, Shane Co recommends a few things that should definitely be known to make the proposal as special and unique as possible.

Taste

Whether you’re a man or woman, it goes miles to know what your spouse-to-be is interested in. Some people are into simplicity, the whole “less is more” theory. Some people are quite the opposite; they love the flashiness and a ring that will attract attention. Usually the latter will involve some type of marriage with diamonds or flashy gem. In either case, there is always an appropriate ring and a correspondingly appropriate price out there to those who exercise some intelligent shopping skills. While this factor is important in making your partner happy while they wear the ring for, potentially the rest of their life, you should be confident in the fact that they will still cherish you and the thought, even if you don’t get their taste exactly right.

Ring Size

Getting this factor right may seem obvious, but it’s often so obvious that it becomes an overlooked detail and forgotten. Getting the right ring size is essential for both the ceremonial and momentous aspects of putting on an engagement ring, but also to show your spouse-to-be that you remember little things like that. There are several ways to get your partner’s ring size without tipping them off: You can borrow one of their other rings, then take it to a jewelry store to determine the size with a ring sizer. You can also get creative and casually put some rings on their finger while out shopping for something else, as in a playful “what if” situation. This might actually prove to be useful because it will help you gauge how interested and willing they are for the idea of a proposal while still remaining hypothetical.

To Pair Or Not To Pair

Another factor to make the decision about is whether or not to make their engagement ring part of a set. Some couples choose to have their wedding rings placed on their finger in addition to engagement rings, rather than replace them. This means you’d be wearing two rings rather than one. If this is the case, it makes sense for the rings to match or be similar. Many jewelers sell matching engagement and wedding rings as one unit to save you the research or guess work of finding matching rings. The same factors would still apply when it comes to ring size and taste, of course. Paired rings will almost always be adorned with diamonds, as is tradition.

By loosely adhering to these basic guidelines, you can be sure you’ll find the appropriate ring that can convey your feelings and your devotion appropriately. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so it makes sense to make it as special as possible for both people.
