Steal that style: Downtown Abbey Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley
Are you guys die hard fans of Downtown Abbey? Then you were sure delighted by a vintage wedding as delicate and elegant as Lady Mary’s. The gown she wore was the most expensive costume they made for the series till date. ‘Lady Mary’s wedding dress was the most expensive costume we’ve made. It cost around £4,000 to make,’ Downton Abbey costume designer Caroline McCall tells ‘It’s a silver lace tabard fabric that goes into a train at the back, and underneath is a silk dress with silk sleeves. The detail at the back wasn’t really seen on camera but the lace goes into a V at the back with tiny buttons and it’s completely edged with tiny rice pearls and Swarovski crystal.’
Lady Mary, played by Michelle Dockery and Matthew Crawley, played by Dan Stevens tied the knot in the first episode of the new series. I love a good vintage wedding and this wasn’t a disappointment. Stunning costumes!

If you charged 4k for that bunch of cheap curtains you fashioned it from then you’re a bunch of crooks! That was a hugely disappointing dress that poorly portrays what would have been appropriate for an aristocrat of that period and place. Why am I not surprised on this hugely disappointing series. We are anticipating a huge climax of teary wedding vows but the stupid producers of this rubbish leaves it out. If there’s one thing Americans know how to do it is wedding scenes. If this has been re written and produced by Americans you’d really have something. Instead you have this mess.
with whom are you having an argument and who are the “bunch of crooks”? you realise this is a bridal blog and i only reported on a movie wedding, right? as for the american weddings, better forget it – this British series has more class and elegance than a hundred recent Hollywood movies :).
