The perfect winter wedding look
Advertisements
KittyChen Couture 2018 Summer might be disappearing into history, but plenty of people still have weddings scheduled in the Autumn and winter months. A winter wedding has both its benefits and drawbacks. Those photos against a snowy background, and then inside in front of a roaring fire could be truly magical. On the other hand, it could be all freezing cold wind, grey skies and pouring rain.
The point is that there are pros and cons to every time of year for a wedding, and the important thing is to understand the factors you need to consider to ensure it is a success. Let’s take a look.
Gown
If the temperature is likely to be hovering in single figures, then you most likely want to rule out that strapless number you were lining up. However, just because you need something that will provide a little more warmth does not mean you have to compromise on style.
A modern, silhouette design, with flowing lines and most important of all, sleeves will look sophisticated and be practical in the coldest weather. Also consider different types of fabric. Richer materials will keep in the heat and help you stay comfortable throughout your special day. Satin and silk are excellent choices to blend practicality and luxury.
Makeup
Professional makeup artist Sarah Meredith knows all about the specific challenges that a winter wedding can bring to your make up plans. It is not just the fact that it might be cold outside, but also the significant changes in temperature between outside and in that can be damaging to your skin.
This is why you have to be prepared with a good skin care regime that focuses on hydration in the weeks leading up to the big day. Well moisturised and healthy skin is essential to provide a perfect canvas.
When it comes to the makeup itself, don’t be afraid to be a little bold with the colour. Classic red lips and smoky eyes provide an amazing contrast with a white dress and a snowy backdrop.
You also need to make sure you stock up on waterproof formulas to provide adequate protection against that cold, wintery wind.
Shoes
The shoes can be the biggest challenge for a winter wedding. Of course, you want to look stylish and elegant, but that is not going to be achieved if you are slipping over in the ice of have lost all feeling in your feet due to the numbing cold.
Tall fashion boots are a definite possibility. They will keep you warm, but be careful if you are going for a high heel, as there is still a good chance of slipping over. If you choose something in suede or leather, you will need to ensure they are waterproof to avoid damage and unsightly water spots.
You could also opt for a simple pair of traditional pumps. Not only do these ensure stability, they also look amazing when combined with a pair of tights. Warmth, style and practicality, they have it all.
