FashionBride’s Interviews: Jenny Lee
Advertisements The fit and construction of Jenny Lee’s gowns have always been comparable to Parisian haute couture. Each gown is handcrafted by a single person, from the very first stitch to the last. That’s why we wanted to know more about the brand and the designer behind it. Here’s our quiz with Jenny Lee. But first, don’t forget to check her website ->clik here<-1. When did you decided to become a designer and why did you find this domain interesting?
I knew I wanted to be a designer since I was 7 years old. My mother used to take me to tailor shops and private design houses to get custom outfits made. She gave me the freedom to choose the fabric, color, design of what I wore and I fell in love with it. I started designing wedding dresses in 1994, when I went to find my own wedding dress.
2. Talk us trough the first years of you work. Maybe you could tell us what did change in time? Are your designs different from the very beginning?
At the start of my career as a bridal designer, giant ball gowns were really in. I wanted to make dresses though that really accentuated the bride’s body, more form fitting and sexy. There weren’t many dresses available in that style at the time, so I was able to use my skills to fill in that hole that was missing. Over time, my dresses have changed, but the emphasis on form and fit has stayed the same.
3. Why should a bride-to-be choose one of your designs?
My dresses are beautifully custom tailored with couture workmanship. A bride’s wedding day is special, and I want the experience of getting the dress to feel personal and memorable. I design the gowns with the bride in mind, taking in consideration their personality as well as their body. Each dress is hand tailored, just like in high couture houses, and I hand choose the fabrics from the established textiles houses from Europe. They’re individualistic, playful, sexy, and feminine.
4. Do tell us a bit more about your inspiration sources.
I always have and always will be inspired by my brides!
5. Have you got any piece you’ve created and that has a very special meaning for you? Can you describe it or can show us a picture?
In my recent collection (Fall 2015) I created an all lace sweetheart gown with a ruffle detailed train. I love this dress because it encompasses all the qualities that define me and a bridal designer. It’s feminine, luxurious, playful, sexy, and romantic with a corset fit accentuating the body’s natural curves.
6. From your point of view, how should a perfect bride look like?
The perfect bride looks timeless. Instead of focusing on trends, I take in consideration what part of the body the bride is most confident in, and then I make sure to highlight those areas. I want a bride to look back at their photos and say ‘Wow I look good’”.
7. And tell us what would you give her and, maybe, other brands can’t.
The haute couture experience. My dresses are not mass produced, they are perfectly made with each bride in mind. Over years of experiences, I’ve learned to engineer and construct dresses to create the perfect curves and shape.
8. Last but not least, do you have any advice for FashionBride readers?
For brides-to-be: Your wedding is a very special day. It’s easy to get caught up in fads, trends, and ideas you’ve conjured of how you imagined yourself to be since you were a little girl. But when picking a dress, it’s important to focus on the importance things: who you are, what your best assets are, and figuring out how to express those attributes. I’ve had a lot of brides come in with a very specific idea they had, but sometimes what you want isn’t what’s best for you. The things you least expect to work for you end up being the best surprises. So shop with an open mind!
