    FashionBride’s Interviews: Marie Laporte

    Advertisements

There are wedding  gowns that simply float, they are so ethereal, so unique and so amazing that you can’t even begin to decribe them. These are the gowns that Marie Laporte creates, those that are soft and simple, so delicate that you can barely notice the multiple layers that combine. We wanted to know more about her gowns so we asked Marie a couple of questions. Here are the questions but before don’t forget to check Marie Laporte’s website ->click here <-

    1) When did you decide to become a designer and why did you find this domain interesting?

My passion for sketching has its root in my early childhood, where I drew twirling figurines in fairy-tail like dresses. Having a grandmother, who nourished my growing interest for sowing by teaching me all the techniques, definitely sparked my designer-gene. By the time I was 14, she helped me create my fist long dress, and from there on my nimble little fingers had a hard time putting down any pencil or pair of scissors. As I didn’t have so much means, I used scraps of furniture tissue in most of my early designs!

    2) Talk us through the first years of your work. Maybe you could tell us what did change in time? Are your designs different from the very beginning?

At 18 years I was creating rather dreamy ballroom gowns with cascading tissue in the skirts and flowers tastefully spread all over the dress. I was a mannequin on the side, and this turned out a great advantage when I organized my first catwalk. Knowing other mannequins and makeup artist who volunteered all contributed to many successful shows. After doing an interview on TV with the influential fashion journalist Vivianne Blassel I continued getting coverage in the media and requests for my dresses, but in white! Since then I’ve eagerly poured out romantic wedding dresses, and although the style and volume has changed you can still find my passion for colour and flowers in my recent collections, like the dress Poeme from the 2015 line.

    3) Why should a bride to be choose one of your designs?

Every dress from Marie Laporte is customized as we offer bespoken tailoring and so each piece is unique, perfectly fitted to the taste of every young bride. I take great care in choosing only the finest tissues with blends of silk, like in organza, muslin and crêpe, to give the skirts a light and airy quality. My French laces from Calais and Chantilly are romantic and refined, and combined with the designs contribute to a very feminine look. In the dresses with bigger skirts, we offer tulle that gives a soft volume and a weightless appearance! Romance, fluidity and effortless beauty is the style I aim for.

    4) Do tell us a bit more about your inspiration sources.

As I pass through Paris, I see many beautiful women with impeccable taste. A simple detail in her dress, the neckline or a pattern may bring forth a new idea. I’m very passionate with modern fashion and I follow all the great creators like Dior and Chanel with their collections altering each season. History is of course a great inspiration; details in wedding dresses from the royalty of past centuries make me daydream, and I especially love impressionist paintings where the tissues are marvellous and the volume just spectacular.

    5) Have you got any piece you’ve created that has a very special meaning for you? Can you describe it or can show us a picture?

My very first creation in silk Doupion I still hold very dear, it was a-symmetrical and strapless, perfectly shaped around the bust and waist. It parted in an a-shape skirt with folded layers all the way down, with flowers in tissue on one hip. Even more amusing, it was green! Then again, I love all my dresses and could have worn each and every one for my own wedding.

    6) From your point of view, how should a perfect bride look like?

The most beautiful bride is one that radiates joy and is comfortable in her own skin. Every woman should embrace her shapes, and a dress that show’s off her best features is the perfect one.

    7) And tell us what you give her and, maybe, other brands can’t?

I choose my staff with great care and we have a warm and welcoming ambiance to make every bride feel at ease. My seamstresses whom I often refer to as my “honey-bees” have worked steady with me for years and they assure an impeccable finish on each creation.  We take great pride in the fact that the production is carried out in the same studio as our boutique, in other words we fulfil every criteria of a bride who seeks quality and expertise.

8)Last, but not least, do you have any advice for FashionBride readers?

Do remember, that finding your dream dress should be a pleasant adventure, so try to eliminate any stressful situations. Take your time to look at the online collections of designers you find interesting, and give them a call to get any additional information you cannot find on their page. Schedule your appointments in advance and invite one or two persons that you hold dear and whom you’d want to share this special moment with. You know you found the right dress when the realization “this is it” appears in your thoughts, kind of like when you realized that your fiancé was the one.
