Loubigirl

There are shoes that politely accompany a dress.

And then there is Loubigirl.

Barely-there straps, a sharp stiletto and almost nothing interrupting the line of the foot make it one of those shoes that looks deceptively simple until you actually put it on.

Under a wedding dress, that simplicity becomes the point.

No lace. No bows. No bridal symbolism.

Miss Z 100 mm — Silver

Silver bridal shoes have suffered terribly over the years.

Mostly because too many of them look like something bought exclusively because the invitation said wedding.

And then we come back to pearl.

Not quite white. Not quite metallic. Softer than silver, quieter than gold, but still luminous enough to feel special.

The Miss Z 100 mm in pearl might actually be the cleverest bridal colour of the group because it sits beautifully between traditional ivory and full evening glamour.

Classic from a distance.

Much more interesting up close.

We already met Miss Z Mesh in her taller incarnation.

Now she has come back down to earth.

Slightly.

The 80 mm Miss Z Mesh combines Bianco white lace and mesh with pearlescent leather, creating the illusion of a classic white pump while allowing the foot to remain visible underneath.

It feels less ceremonial than a traditional pump — and considerably cooler because of it.

Sandale Du Desert

There is something wonderfully old-school glamorous about tying satin around an ankle.

The Sandale Du Desert sits on a 100 mm heel, with an architectural satin upper and a long ivory crepe-satin ribbon that wraps around the ankle.

Unlike the more delicate Miss Z Sandal Du Desert we featured earlier, this version has a broader, stronger front.

Romantic, yes.

Fragile? Absolutely not.

Miss Jane Sandal

And finally: the shoe you might actually still be wearing when the cake arrives.

The bridal Miss Jane Sandal comes in pearlescent Bianco nappa leather on an 85 mm heel, with broad crossing straps and a clean, uncomplicated silhouette.

Nothing here is begging for attention.

Which makes it exactly the sort of shoe that works when the dress already has plenty to say.

Also, after several 100, 120 and 130 mm heels in this series, 85 mm is beginning to look suspiciously responsible.

We don’t like where this is going.

No crystals required.

No giant flower required.

Just five excellent shoes, a wedding dress and an occasional flash of red.

Apparently, Christian Louboutin received the memo about romantic bridal shoes.

He simply chose to interpret it his own way.

Yes, there are pearls. There are satin ribbons. There is even an enormous white flower. But there are also razor-sharp stilettos, a 130 mm platform and, underneath every seemingly innocent bridal detail, that unmistakable flash of red.

For our second Shoes to Kill and Die For selection, romance has entered the room.

Just don’t expect it to behave.

Miss Z Degrastrass Perla

If Cinderella had considerably better taste in shoes.

The Miss Z Degrastrass Perla takes the clean shape of the Miss Z pump and covers sheer mesh with individually placed strass and pearls, creating a gradient that climbs across the foot.

In bridal Bianco, the effect is less traditional embellished wedding shoe and more jewellery that happens to have a 100 mm heel.

This is the shoe for the minimalist dress that needs precisely one spectacular thing.

Cassia Lace Up

Ballet slipper, after several very expensive life choices.

The Cassia Lace Up is crafted in ivory crepe satin with a 100 mm stiletto heel, delicate bow and long ribbon ties wrapped around the ankle.

There is something beautifully contradictory about it: all the visual language of a ballerina’s slipper attached to a heel that nobody at the Bolshoi would voluntarily rehearse in.

With a tea-length gown? Magnificent.

With a slit? Even better.

And suddenly, a little architectural sanity.

The Cora swaps the stiletto for a substantial 100 mm block heel with a 15 mm platform, wrapping the foot in wide crossover straps of Bianco lamb nappa leather.

It feels cleaner, stronger and more contemporary than the others — particularly good if your idea of bridal does not involve looking delicate from head to toe.

Also, among this particular group, Cora is the pair we’d actually consider wearing well beyond the wedding.

Sandaloo

Well.

There had to be one.

The Sandaloo is an ivory crepe-satin platform sandal sitting on a 130 mm square heel, held to the foot with an almost absurdly slender ankle strap.

It should be too much.

That is precisely why we want it.

Under a sleek column gown, the huge platform becomes a glorious little secret until the bride walks, sits, dances or deliberately sticks one foot out for the photograph.

Subtlety has left the wedding.

Miss Z Flora

Louboutin looked at the traditional bridal flower and apparently decided the appropriate response was:

Bigger. Put it on the shoe.

The Miss Z Flora pairs a 100 mm stiletto with pearlescent white nappa leather and an oversized crepe-satin flower spreading across the toe.

Florals on bridal accessories can become saccharine very quickly. This doesn’t. The scale saves it. Instead of a tiny decorative flourish, the flower becomes the entire point of the shoe.

Wear it with a dress covered in flowers and embrace the excess.

Or wear it with the simplest possible gown and let your feet do all the talking.

Pearls. Ribbons. Flowers. A 130 mm platform.

Shoes to Kill and Die For continues.

There are wedding shoes, and then there are red soles under a wedding dress.

For the first chapter of Shoes to Kill and Die For, we are firmly in Christian Louboutin territory — specifically the kind of bridal shoes that understand that white does not have to mean demure.

Satin, mesh, pearls, barely-there straps and heels high enough to make sensible people nervous: these five pairs are for the bride who considers the shoes part of the look, not something to disappear politely beneath the hem.

Miss Z Sandal Du Desert

Possibly the most romantic of the five — but Louboutin romantic, which means there is still a 100 mm stiletto involved.

The Miss Z Sandal Du Desert is made in ivory crepe satin, with a slim front strap and long satin ties wrapping around the ankle. The effect is almost ballet-like, except considerably sexier. Underneath it all, of course, flashes the red sole.

With a fluid silk or satin dress, this is devastatingly good.

Miss Z Mesh

The classic bridal pump gets considerably less classic.

The Miss Z Mesh combines Bianco white mesh with nappa leather and a 100 mm heel, allowing the foot to become part of the design rather than hiding it behind an opaque white upper.

It has the formality of a pump but none of the stiffness. Particularly good with a clean architectural gown that needs something interesting happening below the ankle.

Miss Z Riviera Strass

And then we add pearls.

The Miss Z Riviera Strass mixes white mesh, nappa leather and pearls on an 80 mm stiletto — enough embellishment to register as jewellery without becoming the dreaded bridal sparkle shoe.

This is the one for a shorter dress, a slit, or any gown that intends to let the shoes participate in the photographs. Hiding them would be borderline offensive.

Miss Z Sandal

The minimalist.

The bridal Miss Z Sandal strips everything back to pearly Bianco nappa leather, slender straps and an 80 mm stiletto. No elaborate decoration required.

And that is precisely why it works. Against lace, embroidery, texture or a dramatic silhouette, sometimes the smartest shoe is the one that refuses to compete.

Except for the red sole.

Mere Lachaise Mule

Finally, all remaining restraint leaves the building.

The Mere Lachaise Mule comes in ivory crepe satin on a towering 120 mm heel. It is unapologetically glamorous, slightly impractical and exactly the sort of shoe that justifies the existence of a column called Shoes to Kill and Die For.

Would we choose it for twelve uninterrupted hours of standing?

That is not the question.

Would we want it visible beneath a spectacular wedding dress?
