5 tips to choose the perfect wedding gown
He’s popped the question. You’ve sent out the invitations. But what are you going to do about a wedding dress? How can you find great bridal wear when there are literally thousands of choices on the market? If you’re on the prowl for a gorgeous gown, here are just a few tips for finding the one that’s right for you.1. Choose a Style
Are you a fan of the classics or are you dreaming of something on the cutting edge? Do you want your dress to hit the floor or stop around your thighs? What about sleeves? What about the bodice? Have your preferences in mind before you go gown shopping.
2. Dress to Your Body Type
Pear shapes look great in A-line dresses that flare out at the waist and emphasize their tiny midsections. Apple shapes, on the other hand, tend to favor empire fits that create dramatic silhouettes and billowing beauty. Inverted triangles will want to find trumpet dresses. Hourglasses will look amazing in anything.
3. Consider the Venue
Are you getting married outdoors? You’ll regret that duchesse satin when you’re sweltering in the heat. Or maybe you’re going for a traditional church setting? Better make sure your train won’t get tangled in their tiny walkways. No matter what kind of wedding you’re planning, think about the venue when choosing a dress.
4. Don’t Forget the Details
Pearl buttons can mean the difference between a passable dress and a picturesque one. Alencon lace instead of knitted lace can completely transform your bodice. While it’s important to keep the big picture in mind, don’t let the little things slip past your notice.
5. Try It On
This may sound obvious, but don’t just order something from a catalogue because it is in your size and looks nice on paper. For one, there are no universal standards in bridal sizing; a 10 in one brand may be a 12 in another. You also have no idea how the dress will complement your shoes, accessories and veil until you actually try them on together. Before you commit to a gown, make sure it fits you and your needs.

Temperley 2015 Spring Bridal Collection
Alice Temperley looked to fantasy dresses that celebrate the female figure, focusing on hand-embroidered gowns with a “vintage-y” feel. Highlights included a fluid silk crepe de chine style with fluted sleeves, a draped back and flower appliqués at the neckline and waist, as well as a beautiful lace peasant blouse with an embroidered tulle and lace skirt.
